Steve

Here are the top 7 insights that I took note of from the 75 investors on stage and 328 investors in attendance at our annual Super Summit at the Ritz Carlton this week:

1. Everyone wants more high-quality and well-screened deals. Out of every wealthy family I spoke to, only 1 said they did not need additional high-quality opportunities and they are a $1B+ family on T.V. every day.  None of the 75 investors speakers or the 328 investors attending were paid to do so. They came to learn, connect, and access better opportunities.

2. Many more $1B+ multifamily offices are helping clients navigate direct investments compared to just 3-4 years ago. This is a trend that is just getting started though and many MFOs do not help clients at all with direct investments.

3. There is constant confusion in our industry while talking to private investors and family offices when using terms such as MSA, LTV, IRR, SFO, VFO, CLATs, and DAFs.  It would benefit everyone to make things more simple, clear, and use less jargon when possible, it is too easy to forget that we too once were not familiar with these terms and it alienates potential partners or investors within meetings or events.

4. When I review the firms growing by $100M+ or $1B+ a year, many of which there were many at the Super SummitI see some commonalities.  These firms are quick, sharp, fast, compelling in 2-3 ways, and you can feel the value, confidence, and unique approach when you meet with them or hear them speak.

5. Investors want to see that they can learn from you first; before you learn from them. Investors get pitched a lot and they do their best to see and give an opportunity to every entrepreneur and manager that approaches them. They want to be impressed by that initial interaction before moving on to the next step. They want to like you first, then like the business, you present even that much more. Social acuity, enthusiasm, asking good interesting questions are things that should be mastered, no question about it.

I hope to see you at one of our Private Investor Advantage Workshops in Q1. They are fast-moving training events for private investors and those who are working with investors that want to understand best practices, strategies to be more effective, and top mistakes often made by investors and family offices.  These workshops are being offered in NYC, San Francisco, Dallas, Los Angeles & Miami.  These lessons come from helping over 100 family offices get formed, and work day-to-day with investors within our Centimillionaire Advisors division.  We also have private investor summits in San Francisco, Singapore & New York in between now and April, so I hope to see you once or twice in the first 3-4 months of 2020.

Have a great holiday break.
